Why Choose Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal can help you:
Achieve long-lasting hair reduction
Spend less time shaving and waxing
Reduce razor burn and irritation
Minimize stubborn ingrown hairs
Enjoy smoother-feeling skin
Treat both small and large areas
Simplify your daily routine
Results are progressive, meaning you’ll typically notice less hair and slower, finer regrowth as you move through your treatment series.
Why We Chose the GentleMax Pro Plus®
Not all laser hair removal devices are the same. Isla uses the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus®, a leading professional laser platform featuring two wavelengths:
755 nm Alexandrite: commonly used for lighter skin tones
1064 nm Nd:YAG: designed to safely treat deeper skin tones
Having both wavelengths allows us to personalize each treatment based on your skin tone, hair characteristics, and treatment area.
The system also uses a Dynamic Cooling Deviceâ„¢, which delivers a quick burst of cooling to the skin with each pulse to protect the skin and make treatment more comfortable.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works by directing concentrated light energy toward the pigment within the hair follicle. That energy heats and damages the follicle, reducing its ability to produce future hair while protecting the surrounding skin.
Hair grows in different cycles, and the laser is most effective when the hair is in its active growth phase. Because not every follicle is active at the same time, a series of treatments is needed for the best reduction.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients require a series of approximately 6–8 treatments, although individual needs may vary.
The total number of sessions depends on:
Treatment area
Hair color and thickness
Skin tone
Hormones
Genetics
Consistency with appointments
Individual response to treatment
Treatments are generally scheduled every 4 - 8 weeks, depending on the area being treated and its natural hair-growth cycle. Occasional maintenance sessions may be needed over time, particularly for hormonally influenced areas.
Laser hair removal provides long-lasting hair reduction, but it cannot guarantee that every hair will be permanently eliminated.
What Does Treatment Feel Like?
Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap or brief heat with each laser pulse. Some areas—particularly the Brazilian—may feel more sensitive than others.
The GentleMax Pro Plus® uses an integrated cooling system that delivers a quick cooling spray to help protect the skin and improve comfort during treatment.
Appointments can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or longer, depending on the number and size of the areas being treated.
Preparing for Your Appointment
For a safe and effective treatment:
Shave the treatment area 12–24 hours before your appointment
Arrive with clean skin free of lotion, oil, deodorant, or self-tanner
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks
Do not wax, tweeze, thread, or epilate for at least four weeks
Avoid self-tanner on the treatment area
Tell us about all medications, supplements, and recent medication changes
Let us know if you have recently used antibiotics or medications that increase light sensitivity
Inform us of any recent procedures, skin irritation, rashes, infections, or open wounds in the area
Please continue shaving between appointments—do not remove the hair from the root.
What to Expect After Treatment
Temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling, or small bumps around the hair follicles are common and typically improve within a few hours.
For the first 24–48 hours:
Keep the area cool and clean
Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise
Avoid fragranced products and harsh exfoliants
Avoid picking, scratching, or aggressively scrubbing the skin
Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer if needed
Wear sunscreen on exposed treatment areas
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning
Treated hairs do not disappear immediately. They will gradually shed over approximately one to three weeks. This may look like continued growth at first, but the hairs are slowly working their way out of the follicles.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
The GentleMax Pro Plus® allows us to treat a broad range of skin tones. The best results are generally seen when the hair contains enough pigment for the laser to recognize.
Laser hair removal is typically most effective on brown or black hair. Blonde, white, gray, and some red hairs may not respond well because they contain very little targetable pigment.
A consultation or pre-treatment assessment allows us to evaluate your skin, hair, medical history, and goals before selecting your settings.
When Should I Wait to Be Treated?
Laser hair removal may need to be postponed if you:
Are pregnant
Have an active infection, rash, open wound, or significant irritation in the area
Have recently tanned, been spray tanned in the last 6 weeks, or have a sunburn
Are currently using certain light-sensitive medications
Have recently waxed, tweezed, threaded, or epilated the area
Have used self-tanner on the treatment area
Have a tattoo in the area being treated
The laser cannot pass directly over tattoos. Your provider will leave an appropriate margin around tattooed areas.
Your safety is always our priority. Please disclose your complete medical history and current medications before treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes! Shaving is the recommended method of hair removal throughout your treatment series. Avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, or epilating because these methods remove the root that the laser needs to target.
-
No. Please shave the area 12–24 hours before treatment. You do not need visible hair growth for the laser to work.
-
You may notice some reduction after your first session, but multiple treatments are necessary because hair grows in cycles. Results build progressively throughout your series. This is why at Isla Aesthetics, we offer packages for a series of 8 treatments.
-
Laser hair removal is designed to provide long-lasting or permanent hair reduction. Some follicles may eventually produce new, finer hair, and hormonal changes can stimulate new growth. Occasional maintenance treatments may be recommended.
-
The GentleMax Pro Plus® includes two wavelengths that allow us to customize treatment across a broad range of skin tones. Your settings will be selected based on your individual skin and hair characteristics.
-
Laser hair removal relies on pigment within the hair. Blonde, white, gray, and some red hair may contain too little pigment to respond effectively.
-
Yes. By reducing the amount and thickness of hair, laser hair removal can help decrease the shaving irritation and ingrown hairs that commonly occur in areas such as the bikini line, Brazilian, neck, and underarms.
-
Yes. You may still receive laser hair removal while on your period, including a Brazilian treatment, as long as you are comfortable and use a tampon or menstrual cup. However, some patients may feel more sensitive during this time.
